Spinal Decompression

The discs in your spine act as your body's shock absorbers. Herniation or "bulging" of the discs may occur due to wear and tear, be it everyday use or injury related, that results in less disc flexibility. Disc herniation is one of the most common causes of back pain.

Spinal Decompression and Cervical Decompression are non-invasive, non-surgical procedures developed to treat lower back and neck pain caused by disc herniation and degenerative disc disease, or "arthritis."

The DRX9000™ is state-of-the-art technology designed specifically for spinal decompression therapy which is utilized by hospitals and medical facilities across America, and Potomac Family & Sports Chiropractic Center is the only health care provider to offer Cervical Decompression in Loudoun County, Northern Virginia.

FAQ's
Q) What does Spinal Decompression Therapy Treat?
A) Decompression therapy is for disc related conditions! (Herniated, Ruptured, Bulging, and Degenerated [arthritic])

Q) How Does Spinal Decompression Work?
A) As we sit and stand the weight of our body is pressing down on the discs of our spine (neck or low back). Gravity is only going one way. This downward pressure is called compression. Compression can cut off blood supply and nerve impulses, weakening the structure and supporting soft tissue. This may cause discs to herniated, rupture, and degenerate, to the point the body can not help itself. Decompression Therapy reverses this pressure, allowing blood supply into and around the disc and spine, which allows the disc and surrounding tissue to repair and return to its self supporting functional self, without surgery!

Q) How Does the DRX9000™ Machine Help?
A) The DRX9000™ machine, through a targeted pull with specific angles reverses the pressure (known as vacuum effect) on the injured disc and stretches the surrounding soft tissue to allow, increased space between disc, movement, and blood supply to get to the unhealthy tissue. The way it works is the patient lies on their back with specifically placed belts around their pelvis/waist. There is a gentle pulling motion, with a specific angel to the targeted disc, for approximately 30 minutes of an off and on pulling motion. The patient relaxes through this comfortable treatment process! Patients that have been through treatment, say that during their worst time in pain, the DRX treatment was when their pain was the least or completely gone. First step is to determine if your condition is one that is even treatable, and is decompression an option. It is very successful for those who have it prescribed!

Q) Does This Treatment Replace Chiropractic Care and/or Physical Therapy?
A) Every case is different! Each individual is evaluated and diagnosed to determine exactly what treatment is best for the patient. The compression therapy is a separate and distinct treatment process. There are cases in which chiropractic and/or physical therapies are used in conjunction with the DRX treatment to give patients the most efficient treatment possible.

Q) Will My Insurance Cover Spinal Decompression Therapy?
A) The initial visit is at no charge and will determine if you can consider decompression as a treatment option. The doctor will explain if you are a candidate and how many visits are involved. We then will verify the treatment plan with your insurance coverage and prior to beginning any treatment we will let you know if you have any out of pocket expenses. We will review all payment options.

Q) How Do I Know if it's Right For Me?
A) Set up a discovery visit with the office. This free visit includes a consultation, and the review of the most recent X-rays and MRI to date. This will help the spine specialist (the doctor) determine if your condition qualifies for spinal decompression therapy on the DRX9000™ or DRX9000C.™ If you are qualified objectively, at that time you are considered a candidate for care.
